reporter は report + -er で、「報告する人」という作りです。report はラテン語 reportare に由来し、re-「後ろへ」+ portare「運ぶ」から「情報を持ち帰る」となったので、transport や portable と同じ port- を見れば意味が腑に落ちます。
Reporter is formed from report and the agent ending -er, so it literally means "a person who reports."
