revampは re-「再び」+ vamp から成り、vampはもともと靴の甲の革を指した語で、古フランス語 avantpie「足の前部」に由来します。advanceやpedalと遠い同根をもち、擦り切れた前部分を張り替える感覚が「改修する」へ広がりました。
Revamps comes from re-, meaning "again," and vamp, a word that originally meant the upper front part of a shoe. Vamp goes back through Old French to a term meaning the front of the foot. The idea was first repairing worn shoes by replacing that front part, and from there it grew into the wider sense of renewing or improving something.
