revampは re-「再び」+ vamp から成り、vampはもともと靴の甲の革を指した語で、古フランス語 avantpie「足の前部」に由来します。advanceやpedalと遠い同根をもち、擦り切れた前部分を張り替える感覚が「改修する」へ広がりました。
