Notice the object after the verb: reviewing a book often suggests criticism, while reviewing a plan usually suggests reconsideration or verification.

Reviewing is formed from review plus the participial or gerund suffix -ing. Review came into English through French and is connected with Latin revidēre, “to see again,” from re-, “again,” and vidēre, “to see.” The original idea of looking at something another time developed into the modern senses of checking, reconsidering, studying, and critically evaluating it.
