A satyr is a creature from ancient Greek mythology that is part man and part goat. Satyrs are often shown as wild, playful, and strongly interested in pleasure. The word is mainly used in mythology, literature, and art.

satyr の語源・成り立ち Etymology
satyr はラテン語 satyrus を経て、ギリシャ語 satyros「森に住む半人半獣の精霊」に由来します。接辞分解より固有名として覚える語で、荒々しく好色で酒好きな存在という像が、そのままサテュロスの意味です。satyric や satyriasis も同じ語根です。
Satyr came into English through Latin satyrus from Greek satyros, the name of a wild woodland spirit in Greek mythology. It is not usually broken into smaller roots, but treated as an old mythological name. Because satyrs were seen as rough, lustful, and drunken beings, those associations stayed with the word. Related words include satyric and satyriasis.
