Futurism is a style of art and thought that focuses on the future, speed, technology, and modern life. It can also more generally mean strong interest in future developments and new ideas.

future が分かれば覚えやすい語です。語尾の -ism は capitalism, realism, modernism などと同じで「主義・思想・芸術潮流」を作る形。つまり futurism は「未来をよしとする立場」。ただし単なる「未来志向」ではなく、機械・速度・都市・攻撃的な新しさを賛美した20世紀初頭の前衛芸術運動を指すことが多いです。future＋-ism の組み合わせで意味を取り、modernism など他の芸術運動名と並べて覚えると定着します。

futurism は future『未来』+ -ism『主義』で、future はラテン語 futurus『これから在るもの』に由来します。futurity や future も同根で、『まだ存在していないが、在ることになるもの』を礼賛する発想が語形にそのまま出ています。
"Futurism" combines "future" with the suffix -ism. "Future" comes from Latin futurus, meaning "about to be" or "what will exist later." The word grew from the simple idea of what is still to come into the name of a movement centered on the future; "futurity" shares the same root.
