sides の語源・成り立ち Etymology
古英語 sīde（側面・flanks）から。ゲルマン祖語 *sīdō（長い面）に由来し、「広がった面」が原義。beside（そばに）やsideway（横向き）と同根。物体の正面や背面に対する「横の面」を指し、議論の「立場」の意味にも発展した。
