voiced
有声音
解説 Definition
voiced は voice(声に出す)に由来する形で、形容詞としては音声学で「有声音の」という意味です。声帯を振動させて発音する音を説明するときに使います。
In phonetics, a voiced speech sound is produced while the vocal folds are vibrating. English /b/, /d/, and /z/, for example, are voiced consonants, in contrast to voiceless sounds such as /p/, /t/, and /s/.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
voice に -ed が付いた形で、音声学では「声帯の振動を伴う」という形容詞。喉に指を当てて /b/ と /p/ を発音し、振動する /b/ を voiced、振動しない /p/ を voiceless と体感すると覚えやすい。voiced consonant「有声子音」を基本の組み合わせにする。
In phonetics, voiced describes a sound made with vibration of the vocal folds. The form comes from voice plus -ed, so think “provided with voice.” Place your fingers lightly on your throat and alternate /b/ with /p/: you should feel vibration during /b/, making it voiced, but not during /p/, making it voiceless. Learn voiced consonant and voiced sound as fixed combinations. Here, voiced is a technical adjective; it does not mean merely “spoken loudly” or “expressed as an opinion.”

voiced の語源・成り立ち Etymology
古英語 voce(声)からの voice に過去分詞接尾辞 -ed が付いた形。語根はラテン語 vox, vocis(声)で、vocal(声の)や vocation(天職=神の声に召された仕事)と同語源。言語学では声帯を振動させて出す音を指し、日本語の「有声音」に対応する。
Voiced is built from voice and the adjectival or participial ending -ed. Voice entered Middle English through Old French and ultimately comes from Latin vōx, with the stem vōc-, meaning “voice.” English relatives from the same Latin family include vocal and vocation. In phonetics, voiced acquired a precise technical meaning: produced with vibration of the vocal folds. Thus a sound may be described as having “voice,” in contrast with a voiceless sound produced without that vibration.
