Snuffy describes breathing or speaking through the nose, often because the nose is blocked. It can also describe a nasal sound made when someone has a cold. The word is informal and not very common.

Snuff, in the sense of breathing in sharply through the nose, came from Dutch snuf and belongs to a Germanic word family that also includes sniff and snuffle.
