To undersell means to sell something at too low a price, often lower than its real value. It can also mean to describe something as less good, important, or impressive than it really is. The word is used in business, marketing, and everyday conversation.

まず sell が「売る」。そこに under が付くと「基準より下で売る」なので、コアイメージは「相場より下」。具体的には、競合より安く売って客を取る＝安売りする。そこから比喩で「本当の価値より低く見せる」→自分や他人を過小評価する、に広がる。undersell yourself, undersell the product の形で覚えると使いやすい。oversell は逆に「良く言いすぎる・売り込みすぎる」なので、under / over を対で覚えると混同しにくい。
