人相学は顔の特徴から性格を判断する疑似科学です。

physiognomy はギリシャ語 physiognomonia 由来で、physis「自然・身体つき」と gnomon「見分ける人、判断者」から成る。もともとは「外見から性質を読むこと」で、physics や prognosis にも通じる「自然を見て判断する」という発想が、人相学の意味に残っている。
