Socialism is a political and economic system or idea in which society or the government controls important industries and resources more than in a capitalist system. socialismはラテン語socius「仲間」由来のsocialに、思想・体系を表すギリシャ語系接尾辞-ismが付いた語です。societyやassociateも同根で、『社会を競争の場より仲間の結びつきとして組み立てる考え方』が語源から見えてきます。
"Socialism" is made from social and the suffix -ism, used for systems of thought or belief. Social comes from Latin socius, meaning "companion" or "ally," the same root seen in society and associate.
