不確定な未来のある時点で。はっきりした時期は特定されていないが、いつかは起こるだろうという意味。

some + day で『ある日』。somewhere, someone の some と同じく、情報をぼかす働きだと捉えると覚えやすい。つまり someday は『日付をぼかした day』。tomorrow や next week のような具体予定ではなく、Someday I'll travel abroad. のように夢・目標・願望と一緒に出やすい。予定表には載らない未来の語だと考えると定着しやすい。one day も似るが、someday は会話で『そのうち、いつかね』という少し柔らかく希望を含む響き。

古英語のsum（ある、不特定の）とdæg（日）の複合語。someは不確定さを、dayは時を表し、「ある不確定の日に」が原義。同構造のsomewhere（どこか）、someone（誰か）も同じsome-の不定用法。
Someday is built from some and day, with some used in its old sense of "a certain" or "an unspecified." This pattern goes back to Old English use of sum for something indefinite. So the phrase originally meant "on a certain day, not yet known," and it kept that sense as one word. The same some- appears in words like someone and somewhere.
