置換基
解説 Definition
substituents は substituent の複数形で、分子の基本構造にある水素原子に代わって結合した原子や原子団、つまり「置換基」を指します。置換基の違いは化合物の性質に影響します。
Substituents are atoms or groups of atoms that replace a hydrogen atom on a main chemical structure. This term is used in chemistry to describe parts attached to a larger molecule. Different substituents can change the properties and behavior of the compound.
使い方 Usage
- substituents on ~ で、置換基が付いている構造を示します。on the benzene ring は「ベンゼン環に付いた」です。 Use substituents on to identify the structure they are attached to. On the benzene ring means attached to that ring.
- 単数は a substituent、複数は substituents。methyl substituent のように、前に種類を表す語を置けます。 Use a substituent for one and substituents for more than one. A word naming the type can come first, as in methyl substituent.
使い分け Common distinctions
- substance は「物質」を指しますが、substituent は分子に結合した一部分である「置換基」を指します。 Substance refers to a material, whereas substituent refers to an attached part of a molecule.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
substitute「置き換える」と結び付け、分子の骨格に付いた「置き換わった部品」を思い浮かべます。末尾の -s は複数形を示します。
Link substituents with substitute, meaning replace. Picture replacement parts attached to a molecular framework. The final -s marks the plural.
例文
The substituents on the benzene ring affect its reactivity.
ベンゼン環の置換基は、その反応性に影響する。
Chemists analyze the position of substituents in the molecule.
化学者は分子内の置換基の位置を分析する。
substituents の類義語・関連語
substituents の語源・成り立ち Etymology
ラテン語 substituere(sub-「下に」+ statuere「置く、立てる」)に由来し、「代わりに置くもの」が原義。化学では分子中の原子と置き換わる原子団を指す。関連語: substitute, constitute。接尾辞 -ent は「~するもの」を表す。
"Substituents" comes from Latin "substituere," meaning "to put in place of," built from "sub-" and "statuere" meaning "set" or "place." The core idea is something put in as a replacement. In chemistry, this became the name for an atom or group that takes the place of another in a molecule. Related English words include "substitute" and "constitute."
