名詞の前に置いて「そのような」「ああいう種類の」という意味を表す基本語。話し手が性質や程度をひとまとまりに示すときに使われ、such a good idea のように単数名詞を強調する形でもよく現れる。文脈に依存して内容を指し示す力が強い。

覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
such は「種類・性質をひとかたまりで示す語」と覚えると定着しやすいです。so が「程度」を強めるのに対し、such は名詞を含めて「そういうタイプの〜」と押し出します。such a good idea, such people, such behavior のように、後ろの名詞とセットで見るのがコツ。名詞なしなら so good、名詞ありなら such a good idea と対比すると混同しにくくなります。such ... that ... も頻出なので、結果を続ける型として一緒に覚えると実戦的です。
Remember `such` with a noun: `such a good idea`, `such people`, `such behavior`. `So` often pushes the degree, but `such` points to a whole type or kind. A useful contrast is `so good` but `such a good idea`. Also learn the pattern `such ... that ...` because it appears very often.
