synod

syn- は synchronize, synonym, synthesis などに共通する「一緒に・まとめて」の感覚で覚えると入りやすい語。synod はそこから「教会の指導者たちが一堂に会して決める場」と押さえる。meeting や conference よりかなり限定的で、宗教組織の正式な council に近い。church, bishop, doctrine, policy などの語と並ぶ場面を思い浮かべると定着しやすい。synonym などの syn-語と形が似ていても、意味は「宗教会議」に絞って区別すると混乱しにくい。

The prefix `syn-` often gives the idea of together, as in `synchronize` or `synonym`. Use that as a hook: a `synod` is a gathering where church leaders come together to discuss or decide something. Keep it separate from general words like `meeting` by connecting it strongly with church, bishops, and doctrine.
