Systematics is the scientific study of classifying living things and understanding how they are related. It is used in biology to organize species and trace their evolutionary connections.

So `systematics` is easy to remember as the study of organizing living things into a system, close to `taxonomy` but with more attention to relationships.

systematics は systematic + -ics で、中心の system はギリシャ語 systēma「組み合わされた全体」に由来します。ばらばらの対象を秩序立てて結び直す感覚から、「分類学」が関係を見抜く学問だと見えてきます。system, systematic が同根です。
Systematics comes from systematic, with the noun-forming ending -ics. At its center is system, from Greek systema, meaning "an organized whole" or "something put together." The word developed toward the study of arranging living things into ordered relationships, not just listing them separately.
