tache は意味ごとに語源が分かれ、口ひげでは moustache／mustache の省略形で、語の前半が落ちた話し言葉です。留め金では中フランス語 tache「留め具」に由来し、短く刈ったひげの呼び名と物を留める語が英語で同形になりました。
Tache has two different histories in English. For facial hair, it is a shortened spoken form of moustache or mustache, made by dropping the first part of the word. In another sense, it comes from Middle French tache, meaning a fastening or clasp. So two different source words became the same written form in English.
