血液中に血栓が形成される状態で、血管内で血液が凝固する医学的な疾患。血流が阻害されて深刻な合併症を引き起こす可能性がある。
Thrombosis is a medical condition in which a blood clot forms inside a blood vessel. This can block normal blood flow and may become dangerous depending on where it happens in the body.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
thrombo- を見たら「血のかたまり」系だとまとめて覚えると楽です。まず thrombus が「血栓」という核で、thrombotic は「血栓の・血栓による」、thrombosis は語尾 -osis が付いて「その状態・病気」まで広がった形。diagnosis, psychosis などと同じく -osis は医学名で頻出です。単独で丸暗記するより、deep vein thrombosis や risk of thrombosis のように「血管内で塊ができ、流れを妨げる」場面ごと覚えると残ります。hemorrhage のような「出血」と逆で、こちらは“固まって詰まる”側です。
Notice the medical ending -osis, as in diagnosis or psychosis, which often shows a condition. Then connect thrombo- with a blood clot, so thrombosis becomes the condition of a clot forming. It is useful to remember the phrase "deep vein thrombosis" and contrast it with bleeding: this is about blocking, not leaking.
