乾杯

toast は、誰かや何かを祝って行う乾杯という意味です。日本語の「トースト」は焼いたパンを指すことが多いですが、英語では「乾杯」や「乾杯の言葉」という意味でもよく使われます。

Toast ultimately comes from Latin tostus, “dried or roasted,” the past participle of torrēre, “to dry or scorch.” It first referred to browned bread.
