まず語尾の -able で「〜できる」と見て、tractable は「扱う・制御することができる側」の語だと整理すると覚えやすい。特に反対語 intractable とセットで覚えると強く残る。tractable problem なら「手に負える問題」、tractable child/animal なら「言うことを聞く子ども・動物」。技術文脈では manageable や solvable に近く、単なる easy ではなく「処理や管理がしやすい」という感覚で押さえるとぶれにくい。

tractable はラテン語 tractabilis「扱える」に由来し、tract- は tractare「引っぱる・扱う」、-able は「…できる」です。もとは「引いて導ける」が中心で、そこから「扱いやすい、従わせやすい」という意味になりました。関連語は attract、retract です.
Tractable comes from Latin tractabilis, meaning "able to be handled or managed." Its root is tractare, "to handle" or originally "to pull along," from the same family as attract and retract.
