tragusはギリシャ語tragos「ヤギ」から来た語で、耳珠の毛がヤギのひげに似ることから名づけられた。tragedyやtragicも同じtrag-を含み、意外にも“ヤギ”のイメージが耳の小突起や悲劇語の奥に残っている。
