覚え方のコツ
constitution（憲法）を核に、constitutional（憲法にかなった）→ unconstitutional（違憲の）→ unconstitutionally（違憲的に）と一段ずつ長くして覚えると整理しやすい語です。un- は否定、-al は「〜に関する」、-ly は副詞化。違法一般を表す illegally より意味は狭く、あくまで「憲法に反して」の場面専用。裁判や政治ニュースで、a law was ruled unconstitutional / the government acted unconstitutionally の形で結びつけると定着します。
