unsure は un-「ない」+ sure で、「確かでない」がそのまま語になった形です。sure は古フランス語を経てラテン語 securus「気がかりのない」にさかのぼり、se-「離れて」+ cura「心配」でできています。secure も同根です。
Unsure is made from un-, meaning "not," and sure. Sure came through Old French from Latin securus, meaning "free from care" or "without worry," from se- + cura, "care." Over time, the sense moved from being free of worry to being certain or confident, and unsure became its negative form. Secure is from the same root.
