Untitled means having no title or name. It is often used for artworks, books, documents, or projects that have not been given a final title. In art, "Untitled" may itself be used as the official title.
Start with `title`, then `titled` means "having a title." Add `un-`, and `untitled` simply means "without a title." Think of a file, painting, or document still showing no name yet, often just labeled `Untitled`.
The artist displayed an untitled painting at the exhibition.
Many untitled works in the collection were donated anonymously.

Untitled combines un-, meaning "without," and titled. Title comes from Latin titulus, meaning "inscription," "label," or "heading." It first referred to a written name or heading, so untitled simply developed to mean something with no title given to it. Related words include subtitle and titular.
