重りを付けていない、荷重のない
adjective 形容詞物や器具に重りを付けておらず、外から追加の荷重がかかっていない状態をいう。unweighted exerciseやunweighted lineのように、重りを用いる方式との対比で使われる。
重み付けが適用されていない状態。統計やデータ分析で、すべてのアイテムが等しい重要度を持つことを示す。
Unweighted means not given extra value or importance in calculation or comparison. It is often used in statistics, scoring, and data analysis when every item counts equally. This term helps show the difference between a simple average and one adjusted by weights.
weighted が「重みづけされた」と分かれば、先頭の un- でその打ち消しだとすぐ取れる。統計の weighted average(加重平均)を知っていれば、その反対が unweighted average。各データを同じ1票として扱い、年齢層や地域差に応じた補正をかけないイメージで覚えるとよい。raw と近く見えても「未加工」全般ではなく、あくまで「重みづけなし」が核心。survey data, unweighted results の形で見ると定着しやすい。
Think of weighted average from math or statistics. If something is weighted, some parts count more; if it is unweighted, everything counts equally. That makes unweighted results easy to remember as results without extra adjustment.
Unweighted data can skew results.
重み付けされていないデータは結果を歪める可能性がある。
The unweighted average differs from the weighted average.
重み付けされていない平均は、重み付けされた平均と異なる。
Unweighted samples may not be representative.
Unweighted is built from un- and weighted. Weight comes from Old English, from a Germanic root linked to heaviness and measuring heaviness; the related verb is weigh. The word first meant "without added weight," and later also developed a technical sense of "not adjusted by weighting," especially in statistics. Related words include weigh and overweight.
