覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
Mexico は国名なので常に大文字で始め、in Mexico、live in Mexico、visit Mexico とまとまりで覚えます。英語では x を /ks/ と発音する点を意識し、形容詞・人を表す Mexican では語尾が -can になることも対にして定着させましょう。
Learn Mexico as a capitalized country name in North America and attach it to practical patterns: live in Mexico, travel to Mexico, and be from Mexico. In standard English pronunciation, the x normally represents a /ks/ sound. Pair Mexico with Mexican: Mexico names the country, while Mexican can refer to a person or describe the country’s food, culture, or other features. Notice the spelling change from the final -co of Mexico to -can in Mexican, and memorize the two forms together.

Mexico の語源・成り立ち Etymology
国名 Mexico は、先住民の言葉ナワトル語でメキシコ盆地の中心地を指した Mēxihco に由来します。
Mexico comes from Spanish México, which in turn derives from Nahuatl Mēxihco. That Nahuatl name referred to the central place in the Valley of Mexico associated with the Mexica and their capital. Spanish adopted and adapted the indigenous place-name, and English later borrowed the Spanish country name. The ultimate internal analysis of Mēxihco is debated, so a more specific literal translation should be treated cautiously.
