admiralty はアラビア語 amir「司令官」が中世ラテン語・フランス語を経て入った admiral に、職位や制度を表す接尾辞 -ty が付いた語です。emir も同じ語源で、もとは「指揮する者」だから海軍本部という意味に育ちました。
Admiralty grew from admiral plus the suffix -ty, which makes nouns for rank, office, or system. Admiral came through medieval Latin and French from Arabic amir, meaning "commander" or "leader."
