解説 Definition
国家や支配的な権力を不要と考え、強制ではなく自発的な協力と自治による社会を目指す無政府主義の支持者を指す。政治思想上の立場を表す語だが、文脈によっては体制に強く反対する急進的な人物を指して使われることもある。
An anarchist is a person who believes that society should not be controlled by a government or other strong authority. The word can describe a political belief, but it is sometimes also used more loosely for someone who rejects rules or order.

anarchy（無政府状態）を知っていれば、anarchist は「その考えを持つ人」。-ist は artist, scientist, socialist と同じく「〜の人・支持者」なので形で覚えやすい。ニュースや思想史では political anarchist, anarchist movement のように出やすく、単なる troublemaker ではなく「国家や支配を原理的に疑う立場」を指す。rebel は反抗する人、terrorist は暴力主体で、anarchist とは重ならない場合も多い。
