ブルジョワのとは、資本主義社会における中産階級や資本家階級に属する、または彼らの価値観や生活様式に関連する形容詞です。マルクス主義の用語では、生産手段を所有する支配階級を指します。現代では物質的な豊かさや保守的な価値観を持つ中産階級を指すことが多いです。

English borrowed bourgeois from French. It goes back through Old French burgeis, “inhabitant of a town,” to bourg, “town,” ultimately from a Germanic word related to burg, a fortified place. As prosperous urban citizens became socially distinct from nobles and rural workers, the term acquired its class meaning. Marxist theory later applied it specifically to owners of capital and the means of production.
