bursarは中世ラテン語 bursarius「財布を扱う人」に由来し、さらにラテン語 bursa「財布・金袋」、その奥にギリシャ語 byrsa があります。関連語に bursary、disburse。もともと「金袋を預かる人」なので、学校や団体の会計係という意味に自然につながります。
Bursar comes from Medieval Latin bursarius, meaning a person in charge of a purse, from Latin bursa "purse" or "money bag." That word goes back even further to Greek byrsa.
