解説 Definition
もともとは船体の清掃や修理のために船を一方へ傾けることを指す語。そこから転じて、車などが勢いよくぐらつきながら進む、制御しきれない速さで蛇行したり突進したりするという意味でも使われる。文脈によって意味を見分ける必要がある。
To careen means to move forward very fast in an uncontrolled way, often swaying from side to side. It is commonly used for vehicles, but it can also mean to tilt a ship onto one side, especially for repair.
