chartreuse はフランス語で、修道会カルトジオ会の本山 Grande Chartreuse に由来します。もとはその修道院の薬草酒の名で、そこから黄緑色の色名へ広がりました。Carthusian や Charterhouse も同じ地名系で、「場所の名が色になる」語です。
