覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
class に -ed を付けて classed。「基準に従って分類ラベルが付いた状態」を思い浮かべましょう。語末の /s/ は無声音なので -ed は /t/、全体は /klɑːst/ または /klæst/ と発音します。
Add -ed to class and picture a label attached according to a classification rule. Since class ends in voiceless /s/, -ed is pronounced /t/. The whole word is /klɑːst/ or /klæst/.

classed の語源・成り立ち Etymology
ラテン語 classis(市民の等級・階級)が語源で、古代ローマの徴兵制度における市民の区分を指した。フランス語 classe を経て英語に入った。関連語:class(階級)、classify(分類する)。「社会的等級に分けられた」が原義である。
Classed is the past tense and past participle of class, formed with the regular ending -ed. Class entered English through French classe from Latin classis, which referred to a division or rank of Roman citizens and also had military associations. Its meaning broadened from an officially defined social group to any category sharing particular features. The verb class consequently came to mean placing someone or something within such a category.
