colloquialism は colloquial + -ism で、『口語らしい言い方・口語表現』を表す語です。colloquial はラテン語 colloquium「対話」由来で、col-「共に」+ loqui「話す」から成り、関連語に soliloquy, loquacious。『人が一緒に話す場の言葉』だから口語表現なのです。
