correctly の語源・成り立ち Etymology
correctly は correct「正しい」に -ly が付いた語で、correct はラテン語 corrigere「まっすぐに直す」から来ています。cor- は com-、語根 regere は「まっすぐ導く」を表し、「基準に沿うよう直した状態」がそのまま「正しく」になりました。関連語は right, rule です。
`Correctly` comes from `correct` plus the adverb ending `-ly`. `Correct` goes back to Latin `corrigere`, meaning "to make straight" or "set right." From the idea of straightening what is wrong, the word came to mean doing something in the right or proper way.
