解説 Definition
実際の事実とは違う仮定に基づく、または事実に反する想定を表す形容詞です。「もし〜だったら」という反実仮想の場面で、counterfactual reasoning や counterfactual scenario のように使います。
Counterfactual describes something that is based on an imagined situation that did not actually happen. It is often used in history, philosophy, and science when discussing what would be true under different conditions. The word usually refers to ideas or statements, not real facts.
