factual の語源・成り立ち Etymology
ラテン語 factum「なされたこと」に由来し、その元は facere「作る・行う」、さらに形容詞化の -al が付きます。fact が「実際に為された事実」だから、factual は想像でなく出来事に足のついた語で、factor や manufacture も同根です。
Factual comes from fact plus the adjective ending -al. Fact comes from Latin factum, meaning "something done," from facere, "to do" or "to make," a root also seen in factor and manufacture. Because a fact was originally something actually done, factual came to mean grounded in real events rather than imagination.
