cribbage は crib（脇に取っておく札の山）に名詞化の -age がついた語で、crib は古英語 cribb「かご・囲い」にさかのぼります。囲いに入れて別扱いにした札が得点源になる遊びなのでこの名になり、関連語に crib があります。
Cribbage comes from crib with the noun ending -age. Crib goes back to Old English cribb, meaning a basket, stall, or small enclosed space. In the card game, the crib was the set-aside group of cards, and the game took its name from that special part.
