痛々しい
解説 Definition
見たり聞いたりする側が恥ずかしさや不快感を覚えるほど、言動などが気まずく不自然で痛々しいさまを表す、くだけた形容詞です。
Informally, embarrassing, awkward, or unnatural enough to make an observer feel second-hand embarrassment or discomfort. It commonly describes forced dialogue, old videos, jokes, scenes, or other behaviour that is unpleasant to watch or hear.
使い方 Usage
- cringey video、cringey dialogue のように名詞の前に置いたり、The video is cringey. のように状態を述べたりします。 Use it before a noun, as in cringey video or cringey dialogue, or after be, as in The video is cringey.
- so cringey「とても痛々しい」、too cringey to watch「痛々しすぎて見ていられない」の形で使えます。 Useful patterns include so cringey and too cringey to watch.
- くだけた会話で使う語です。cringy という綴りも同じ意味で使われます。 The word is informal. The alternative spelling cringy has the same meaning.
