cyberbullying は cyber-「ネットの」+ bullying「いじめ」の複合語。cyber はギリシャ語 kybernetes「舵取り」にさかのぼり govern と同根、bully はオランダ語系から「威圧する人」へ転じたため、ネット空間で相手を操るように苦しめる感じが出る。
