dazzle は中英語の北欧語系表現にさかのぼり、daze と同系で「感覚をくらませる」が核です。細かくは分解しにくい語ですが、強い光で目の感覚がくらむことから、形容詞では「まぶしい・目がくらむほど輝く」という意味になります。daze や bedazzle が関連語です。
