performance は perform + -ance ですが、perform 自体は古フランス語 parfournir「最後までやり遂げる」に由来します。par-「完全に」と fournir「供給する・成し遂げる」が核で、furnish も親類なので「十分に果たす」感じが見えます。
Performance comes from perform plus the suffix -ance. Perform itself came through Old French from a word meaning "to carry through completely" or "finish fully." This original idea of fully doing something developed into the modern sense of the result of what was done.
