concert はフランス語 concert を経て、ラテン語 concertare にさかのぼります。con-「共に」+ certare「競う・争う」から生まれ、元は「力を合わせる・調和する」感覚で、そこから演奏会の意味になりました。関連語に concerto, concerted があります。
Concert came from French concert, going back to Latin concertare. It was built from con- "together" and certare "to strive" or "compete," and it first had the sense of acting together or being in agreement.
