Disassembly is the process of taking something apart into its separate pieces. It is commonly used for machines, devices, furniture, or technical systems when they are being repaired, studied, or recycled.

assembly を「部品を集めて組み立てること」と知っていれば、その前に dis- が付くことで「まとまったものを外してばらす」と逆向きに捉えられる。assemble / assembly / disassembly / reassemble をセットで覚えると、組み立て→分解→再組み立ての流れで記憶しやすい。manual, repair, maintenance, recycling で disassembly of a machine のように出やすく、destroy のように壊すのではなく、部品単位で丁寧に外す語だと意識すると定着する。

disassembly は dis-「離して」＋ assembly「組み立て・集合」から成る英語内の形成語です。assemble や reassemble と同系で、assembly が「一緒にすること」だから、その逆に「一緒になったものをばらすこと」すなわち「分解」を表します。
Disassembly is formed in English from dis- and assembly. Assembly comes from assemble, from Old French and ultimately Latin roots meaning "to bring together," while dis- adds the idea of reversal or separation.
