機械や装置などを構成している部品を一つずつ取り外し、ばらばらの状態にすることを表す語。修理や点検、清掃、再利用のために中身を開いて細かく分ける作業について使われる。
Disassembling means taking something apart into separate pieces or parts. It is commonly used for machines, devices, furniture, or other objects that can be put together again.

assemble「組み立てる」を知っていれば、その反対を表す dis- が付いた disassemble は「組み立てたものをほどく」と捉えやすい。assembly line の assembly と同じ仲間。単に壊す destroy ではなく、ねじや部品を順番に外して、あとで戻せるようにばらす感覚が大事。disassembling はその作業中・工程名として出やすいので、assembling と対で覚えると定着しやすい。
