従わない
解説 Definition
disobeys は disobey の三人称単数現在形です。命令・規則・法律・指示などに従わないことを表します。
The third-person singular present form of disobey, meaning that a person or other subject refuses or fails to follow a rule, command, law, or instruction. It is used with subjects such as he, she, the child, or the organization.
使い方 Usage
- he、she、the child など三人称単数の主語に使う現在形です。末尾の -s は /z/ と発音します。 Use disobeys in the simple present with third-person singular subjects such as he, she, or the child. The final -s is pronounced /z/.
- disobeys orders、disobeys his parents のように、命令や従わない相手を直接目的語に取り、to は付けません。 Use a direct object without to, as in disobeys orders or disobeys his parents.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
obey「従う」に dis- が付いて「従わない」。disobey は母音字 e+y で終わるため、y を変えずに -s を付けて disobeys と覚えましょう。
Start with obey, then add dis- for not obeying. Since disobey ends in a vowel letter plus y, keep the y and add -s to form disobeys.
例文
The child disobeys his parents' rules on a daily basis.
その子は毎日、親が決めた規則に従いません。
She disobeys traffic laws despite knowing the risks.
彼女は危険を承知しているのに、交通法規に従いません。

disobeys の語源・成り立ち Etymology
古フランス語「desobeir」からの借用。ラテン語の否定接頭辞「dis-」と「obedire」(耳を傾ける=ob-~に向けて+audire聞く)の合成語。「聞く耳を持たない」が原義。関連語: obedient(従順な)、audience(聴衆)。
Disobeys is the inflected form of disobey, which entered English through Old French desobeir. Its deeper source is Latin, combining a negative or reversing prefix with obedire, “to obey” or literally “listen toward.” Obedire is historically related to audire, “to hear.” The modern form adds the third-person singular present ending -s to disobey without changing the final y.
