Disparaged means spoken about in a way that shows little respect and suggests something is not good or important. It is used when a person, idea, or work has been criticized unfairly or dismissively.

disparaged は disparage の過去分詞で、dis-「離れて」+ 古フランス語 parage「同等・身分」が核。もとは「不釣り合いにする」「格を落とす」で、そこから人や物を見下して言う意へ進んだ。parity や peer にも「同等」の感覚が残る。
