Domestication is the process of training animals or cultivating plants so they live with humans and are useful to them. It is commonly used in history, biology, and agriculture. The word can also refer more generally to making something less wild or less independent.

domestication の語源・成り立ち Etymology
domestication はラテン語 domus「家」から出た domesticus「家の、中で飼う」が土台で、-ation が付いて名詞化した語です。domestic や domicile も同根で、「野生を家の内側へ移すこと」と考えると、家畜化が人の暮らしへの組み込みだと見えてきます。
Domestication comes from Latin domus, meaning "house," through domesticus, meaning "of the home." The word originally carried the idea of bringing something into the household.
