Enthalpy is a measure of heat energy in a physical or chemical system. It is used in chemistry and physics to describe how much heat is gained or lost during a process. This is a technical scientific term, not an everyday word.

熱力学で enthalpy を見たら、energy だけでなく pressure と volume も込みで考える量だ、とひとまとまりで覚えると残りやすい。式では internal energy に pV を足したもので、特に constant-pressure process では heat と結びつけて出てきやすい。enthalpy change, standard enthalpy などの形で頻出。entropy と語形が近く混同しやすいが、entropy は乱雑さ、enthalpy は熱の出入りを追う場面で使う量と切り分ける。
