熱力学や情報理論で使われる概念で、系の乱雑さや状態の不確実さの度合いを表す量。一般には、秩序だった状態が崩れてエネルギーや情報が広がり、自然には元の状態へ戻りにくくなる傾向を示す指標として理解される。
Entropy is a scientific term for the amount of disorder or randomness in a system. In science, it is used especially in physics and information theory. More generally, it can also suggest a gradual move from order to disorder.
